Kids Instructional and Tee Ball:We will be offering Kids Instructional Baseball (4 year olds) and Tee Ball (Kinder Kids, 5 & 6 year olds) here in New Durham at the Smitty's Ball Fields. *Age cut off is April 30, 2019.Kids Instructional will provide a six week program (one 1/2 hour practice per week) to our youngest players to introduce them to basic concepts of baseball including throwing, hitting and working with others in a structured setting. Tee Ball will provide a six week program (one 45-60 minute practice per week) to build upon basic fundamentals of the game including throwing, hitting running bases, and working as a team to play the game. There will be a possibility of games against other teams but this program will not be part of any specific league. We are looking for coaches for both Kids Instructional and Tee Ball. Practices will be determined by coach availability but we expect to begin the programs at the beginning of May (weather and facility access permitting). All participants will receive a team shirt. Players should wear comfortable clothes to practice including shoes they can safely run in as well as bring a water bottle and glove.Registration is due by April 15, 2019. Additional children registered per family after the first will receive a $10 discount. Would you like to sponsor the Instructional Baseball or Tee Ball Programs? Your sponsorship would help cover shirts and supplies. For more information on this opportunity, contact Nichole at ndrec@newdurhamnh.us or 859.5666. ---Baseball & Softball: For 2019, both baseball and softball for ages 7+ will be offered through the Kingswood Cal Ripken Baseball League (KCRBL) out of Wolfeboro. If there are enough New Durham players registered through KCRBL to form an all New Durham team at a particular level, we will support that and offer practices in town at the Smitty's Way Ball Fields as well as some games in town to make the season more convenient for families. Families with children on teams that include a mix of kids from the participating KCRBL towns can expect to travel outside of New Durham for practices. All teams (even all New Durham teams) can expect to travel for games. Why participate with KCRBL? Several years ago, New Durham was able to field its own teams for the various levels of baseball and softball and participate in a local league. Unfortunately, over time, our numbers decreased and we were no longer able to field all New Durham teams. In order to continue to offer baseball, we decided to partner with Kingswood Cal Ripken which offered our youth the chance to play ball. While this meant extra travel for families, it also offered our youth the opportunity to meet and play with the kids they can expect to see in middle school and high school after they leave the New Durham School as well as a chance to learn from coaches and volunteers they may soon meet along their school and sports paths. To find out more information on the Kingswood Cal Ripken Baseball League as well as to register for the KCRBL, please visit www.kcrbl.com. Registration deadline through KCRBL for baseball is March 18 and for softball is March 23.If you have questions about these offerings, you can contact Nichole, Recreation Director, at ndrec@newdurhamnh.us or 859.5666.
